We went back to the source while helping to raise awareness and funds for small-town farmers with our friends at Heifer International at their 5th-annual farm-to-fork event, Feast in the Field!
Paired along with hors d'oeuvres and drinks, Mountain Valley Spring Water was served to guests as they mingled, listened to live music, ate a locally provided dinner and had the opportunity to hear from Steve and Ashley Dettelbach on how Heifer USA’s farming cooperatives program has positively impacted their own farm in Wynne, Arkansas.
While also being a zero waste and no trace affair, Feast in the Field was a testament to our passion of going back to the source by promoting the importance of increasing the availability and market for locally grown produce to help end poverty and hunger where it is needed most.
Heifer’s work in the United States (Heifer USA) is centered on building and reviving local food systems so that farmers and families in Arkansas, one of the poorest regions in the USA, are making a difference in their own lives and the lives of their neighbors. Heifer USA has launched two cooperatives, the Grass Roots Farmers’ Cooperative and New South Produce Cooperative, to link small-scale farmers to stable and profitable markets while reconnecting communities to sustainably grown produce and meat products. With the help of these co-ops, farmers can spend less time worrying about selling their products and more time focusing on what they know best, farming. This mutualistic ideal is what captures the humanitarian mission of Heifer International, and why we were so proud to sponsor and be a part of this charming event!
