ONE SMALL STEP TO CATAPULT YOUR WELLNESS PLAN: Plus, three tips that will benefit your journey in wellness.

When trying to decide which direction to take when it comes to your health and wellness, a lack of information won’t ever be your problem. We are overloaded daily with information online, making it really hard to decide where to start and whom to trust. Complicating things further, we all fall into the trap of thinking of the many things that we have to do, want to do, and should be doing. We bundle these thoughts together, resulting in overall chaos in the mind.

To cut through the noise, I recommend simply asking for help. From a person, not the internet. Find a guide or mentor knowledgeable in your area of focus—someone you value and trust—and start there. Be patient, enjoy the process, and don’t rush it. Be easy on yourself since the changes can be both physically and mentally challenging at times. And most importantly, let the work guide you; don’t try to guide the work.

Here is a list of the types of professionals I personally couldn’t live without. The treatments, therapies, and services they offer led me through such an inspirational journey that I will forever be grateful for their support:

  • -  Private yoga and/or Pilates instruction, or meditation coach

  • -  Nutrition/Health Coaching

  • -  Acupuncture or any type of body work (i.e. physical therapy, visceral massage, etc.

In the meantime, let’s get you started. Here’s a list of a few simple things I try to do every day that you can begin to incorporate into your daily routine immediately. Don’t be fooled by their simplicity, their benefits speak volumes.

1. Take a walk and ditch the technology.

Even ten minutes will do the trick and clear your mind. Be sure to ditch the technology and walk with zero distractions. Enjoy the outdoors, breathe in the air, and let your mind wander freely without the added stress of trying to figure something out or get something done. Soak in the fresh air and the beautiful environment around you. Connecting with nature is so important for our well-being and spirituality.

2. Breathe deeply.

You may not be ready or have the time to take a daily yoga class, but the best way to incorporate yoga into your life is through the breath. Start small by taking three deep cleansing breaths three times a day.

  1. Step 1: sit still, close your eyes, and sit nice and tall
Step 2: breathe out all of the air in your lungs
Step 3: take a deep breath in and pause at the top, then open your mouth and exhale               Step 4: repeat two more times

3. Drink more water.

Proper hydration is key for all body functions and is vital for our overall wellness. I always have a bottle (reusable, of course) by my side. From the moment I wake up to the moment I go to sleep, I have water. So drink up, friends! Especially in preparation for the summer heat.

Vas’s journey in wellness began 10 years ago at the age of 24 when she experienced her first Multiple Sclerosis (MS) attack. Soon after her diagnosis of MS, Vas began the first steps towards her path in healing. This path ultimately brought her to her career in wellness. Vas has an MBA, is a certified yoga teacher, a certified Holistic Health coach, and is almost (just a few weeks away!) a certified Pilates teacher. Her healthy lifestyle has had a significant impact on her life and overall wellness, and she aspires to continue to learn, grow, and share her passion with others. Vas currently lives in Newport Beach, California where she teaches weekly yoga classes and provides wellness coaching in the OC area. She will be hosting her first yoga and wellness retreat this fall. Vas is very grateful to say that her MS has been in remission for the past 6.5 years and counting.
