Toasting to Spoleto with Mountain Valley and The Local Palate

As a proudly southern staple for over 150 years, Mountain Valley Spring Water is pleased to join forces with The Local Palate in 2022. A Southern food culture magazine, The Local Palate seeks to tell the stories behind the people, places, and foodways that make up this diverse and dynamic culinary region.

Kicking off the year-long partnership, Mountain Valley was featured during The Local Palate's Toast to Spoleto event, an Italian-style garden party at a private residence in Charleston, South Carolina's historic downtown during the Spoleto Festival USA. The over two-weeklong event is internationally recognized as one of the country's premier performing arts festivals that happens each spring in Charleston, created as a counterpart to the annual Festival of Two Worlds in Spoleto, Italy.

To properly "toast" Spoleto, Charleston bartending pro Megan Deschaine handcrafted summery Italian-influenced drinks featuring flavored sparkling spring waters from Mountain Valley Spring Water, including Key Lime Twist, White Peach, and Blackberry Pomegranate.

Cocktails included the With Love Linda featuring Hat Trick Gin, bell pepper, tomato, basil, raspberry and Mountain Valley White Peach Sparkling Spring Water.

The Italiano Al Caribe with Rum, Aperol, Pineapple, Passionfruit, Orgeat and Mountain Valley Key Lime Twist Sparkling Spring Water.

And The Free Spirit mocktail featuring watermelon, green tea, vanilla and Mountain Valley Blackberry Pomegranate Sparkling Spring Water. Full recipes here.

It wasn't all cocktails and conversation, the event featured an incredible spread of Italian-inspired bites from chefs, including Cajun pasta con vongole from Michael Gulotta of Maypop and MOPHO in New Orleans; overstuffed mortadella and prosciutto sandwiches from Charleston-based Anthony Marini of The Pass; inventive pizzas from Charleston's DoughBoyz Pizza Co.; oyster on the half shell from Oysters XO; along with a decadent charcuterie spread and ice cream and sorbet from Kelly Chu of Cirsea Ice Cream.

Overall, a beautiful summery Charleston evening with a hint of Old World flair. A perfect celebration fo the season. Where will we turn up next? Follow us on our Instagram and Facebook pages to see.
